Spring 2010 Recap: Spurs Finalists at Delco; Second Place in Inaugural NERP Run
June 2010 - In the Elite bracket of the highly competitive FC Delco Players Cup tournament over Memorial Day weekend, Spurs went through to the semi-finals on the back of a 2-1-0 record, where they defeated a gritty West Chester side 2-1 to move into the finals. There they met longtime rivals HBC Lightning, who took the match 1-0. The girls went home proud of their tremendous achievements over the weekend and determined to return to "Delco Monday" in the very near future.
In league play this spring, Hotspur win 4, tie two and lose only once (to overall champion and NYE State Cup finalist Farmingale Utd) in their first go at the elite Northeast Regional Premier league (NERP). The girls really stepped up their play this spring, and Patrick was very proud of the effort against top competition from Mass, CT, RI, Albany and LI.
MSC Hotspur Repeat As NJ State Futsal Champions
February 2010 - With a convincing 5-1 win over LTST Futsal Academy in the final, Spurs took home their second straight NJ State Championship trophy. The all-day tournament over M.L. King Jr Weekend, held by MAPS in the Sonny Werblin Sports Complex of Rutgers University, featured a split Hotspur squad; Spurs White made it to the semi-final before Spurs Black avenged their teammates in the final. Congratulations!
Fall 2009 Report: Undefeated Spurs Win MAPS North
December 2009 - In a marathon soccer and Bat Mitzvah season, MSC Hotspur had a superb run that included an unbeaten 5-0-3 record, best in the highly competitive MAPS North division of the JAGS league, and strong performances against elite sides in the Covanta, Bridgewater, WAGS and Patriots tournaments. How the team managed to pull off this feat while partying until midnight almost every Saturday night during the season is still being debated, but talent and character and some great dance moves had a lot to do with it - as did the patient leadership of coach Patrick Greene. Along the way, new formations were unveiled, new tactics were employed, and several players learned new positions "on the job." Alden returned and got her groove back; Ali rejoined Spurs in top form; Sydney S joined the squad and had immediate impact; and Courtney healed an injury while not missing a game or practice. Including league, friendly and tournament matches, Hotspur's record from August to November was 21 games won (11) or tied (10) against only 3 defeats - 55 goals scored; 28 given up for a plus 27 goal differential.
Spring 2009 ENYYSA Premier Wrap Up
June 2009 - After winning the MSC Kick-off tournament in March, Spurs fought through injuries and illness to finish the ENYYSA Premier spring season at 5-2-3, good for 17 points and 4th place in the wildly competitive U12 girls league, home of the new State Open Cup winner (L.I. United). First place ended up a mere 2 points from Spurs' grasp!
Spurs Get Glory At Inaugural MSC Kick-off Tournament
March 2009 - Topping a Platinum group that included defending NY State Cup champs Farmingdale United (NYE) and other premier teams, Hotspur won the inaugural MSC Kick-off Tournament on the weekend of March 7-8. In round robin play, Spurs survived a last-second winner by Old Bridge Thunder (NJ) to squeak past Patriots97 (NYE) via tie-breaker into the elimination round where they defeated two quality opponents, Long Island United Red Wolves (NYE) and East Meadow Hurricanes (NYE), by identical 1-0 scores to bring home the gold. It was a far from easy path to victory: because of various knocks and nicks, by the end of the final the team was down to barely 11 fit players.
Spurs Are 2009 NJ State Futsal Champions!
January 2009 - Hotspur competed in the NJ State Futsal Championships with a split squad at Rutgers on Jan 31. Both squads finished second in their brackets advancing to the semi-finals. Spurs White took on southern NJ power CREAD 96/97 who had beaten the Black squad 2-1 in the preliminaries. Spurs White, led by the clinical finishing of Gianna Finz (10 goals for the tournament) and the composed skill of Naja Stafford took control early and never looked worried in a 4-0 thrashing of the top seeded team. On the adjoining court Spurs Black took on the other top seed LSTS Futsal Acadamy featuring players from PDA and other NJ Premier teams. A tightly contested battle went back and forth, entering the final minute of the game drawn at 3-3. PKs were averted when Alden Terry split the defense with an incisive through-ball for Rosie Ehrlich who calmly flicked the ball past the onrushing keeper into the far corner of the net. The final match bewteen Spurs White and Spurs Black was a good natured affair with a total of 7 goals - highlighted by Madison Rosegarten's lightning bolt from a tight angle that knocked the goal frame off the end line. The girls left the Rutgers gym with our first State Championship - though they were confused as to how that was possible since it's not our state.
MSC Hotspur Black Beat PDA Clash White, Reach Semis At US Futsal Regionals
February 2009 - After a great run to the semi-finals of the USFF Northeast Regional Tournament, a split squad (ss) of U12 girls MSC Hotspur finished one game short of making it to the National futsal tournament. Spurs drew their first two games but defeated PDA Clash White (ss) 9-4 in the final game to win the bracket and advance to the Semis. In the semi-final match, PDA Clash Blue (ss) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening minutes and that made the difference in a game Spurs dominated from then on. With the Spurs pounding on the door with constant pressure the PDA defense held firm and did whatever they could to keep the ball out of the net. Outshot, outhustled and outplayed, PDA showed their mettle and clinical finishing on the break. A tremendous performance this weekend by all the girls: Rosie, Anna, Jessie, Syd, Jenny, Naja, Ali, Courtney, Sarah T, and Rachel.
Fall 2008 Summary: Fine Run For Spurs
November 2008 - Hotspur finished a fine fall season. The girls had a ton of fun, blending in new players, growing individually and as a group, and exceeding even the high expectations they set for themselves. Playing in the MAPS Premier league for the first time, Spurs finished tied for second place among teams that played a full 8-game schedule. Their only defeat (a somewhat controversial one at that) came at the hands of NJ State Cup semi-finalist, Toms River Utd, the team currently ranked #1 in NJ.
